Update: Devin Faraci of Badass Digest has indicated via Twitter that he originally dropped this scoop way back when Civil War was first announced.
Original Article: Much of the greatness that was Captain America: The Winter Soldier can be attributed to the two directors, Joe and Anthony Russo. They were mainly known for their work in the TV show Community before, which makes their success such a surprise. It’s already been known that they will direct the next Captain America film, Civil War, but a new report says that might not be all.
As part of their report on Daniel Bruhl joining Civil War, Deadline also dropped as a side-note that the Russo brothers are the top choice to direct Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and Part 2. They have been building up credibility over there, and seeing the direction that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is going in, this would make a lot of sense.
Considering that Infinity War is going to be on a much larger scale than The Winter Soldier, this project would be a lot more difficult for any director really. However, they’re already taking on another large-scale Marvel film, Civil War, that will have a seemingly huge impact on the rest of Phase 3. If they’re able to handle that, which they probably will be, Infinity War should not be too much of a stretch.
Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 will be released on May 4, 2018, and Part 2 will be released on May 3, 2019.
