CW producing the ‘Sabrina’ series we absolutely asked for

Well, this is pretty great-sounding. As excitement gears up for the second season of Riverdale, it’s been reported by Variety that the production team behind the show we’re still calling Tween Peaks are developing a second live-action Dark Archiverse show for the CW: Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

Ever since Riverdale turned out to be so flipping excellent and weird, we’ve been hoping that Archie Comics’ beloved witch – best known, of course, for the Melissa Joan Hart-starring TV series of the 1990s – might get involved somehow. While there hasn’t actually been anything firmly supernatural in Riverdale yet, the style and world have just felt so suited to it – and the fact that it’s show heavily rooted in nostalgia for ’80s and ’90s teen drama simply seals the deal.

Variety write that:

The potential series would be based on the Archie Comics series “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina,” which reimagines the origin and adventures of Sabrina as a dark coming-of-age story that traffics in horror, the occult, and witchcraft. The series is described as being tonally in the vein of horror classics like “Rosemary’s Baby” and “The Exorcist,” and will see Sabrina wrestling to reconcile her dual nature as a half-witch, half-mortal  while standing against the evil forces that threaten her, her family, and the daylight world humans inhabit.

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Archie’s Chief Creative Officer and the man behind their modern day revival in both comics and TV, will write and exec produce, with several other key Riverdale figures also involved. We expect to see a pilot show up some time in 2018, and all being well (and if Riverdale itself doesn’t completely drive off a cliff in its second season) this could become a very welcome companion indeed.

And please, please, guys: cast MJH as Aunt Hilda. You know it makes sense.
