‘Deadpool 2’ finds its villain in ‘The Strain’s Jack Kesy

All the talk and speculation about Deadpool 2 so far has been about Domino and Cable, so much so that we forgot the movie also needed an out and out villain to face off against its morally ambiguous heroes. Well, it looks like it now has one with Jack Kesy joining the cast in an unconfirmed role.

The prevailing wisdom, however, seems to be that Kesy will be playing the X-Men villain Black Tom Cassidy, who in the comics is actually the cousin of Banshee, a character you may remember being played by Caleb Landry Jones in X-Men: First Class.

Black Tom’s power was originally the ability to generate blasts of force by using a wooden stick to focus his power, but was later genetically engineered into a plant-like being that gave him the ability to grow to an immense size, super strength, regenerative powers, and to mentally control the plant life in his vicinity. That sounds exactly like the sort of silly power set that Deadpool 2 could have a lot of fun with.

As for Kesy, he’s probably best known for his role as the goth rock star Gabriel Bollivar in The Strain, but you’ll also be able to spot him in Baywatch which is in cinemas this weekend. Also on his upcoming slate is a role in Horse Soldiers opposite Chris Hemsworth and Michael Shannon, and Eli Roth’s Death Wish remake.

Kesy’s will join Josh Brolin (Cable) and Zazie Beetz (Domino) as newcomers in the Deadpool sequel, with Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, Leslie Uggams, Stefan Kapacic and Brianna Hildebrand all set to return. Deadpool 2 is set for release on June 1st 2018.
