Director James Gunn has updated us on the status of Guardians of the Galaxy 2, saying that he’s almost done with the script and the casting process has already begun.
In a new Periscope Q&A(via Screen Rant), Gunn answered several questions about the status of his superhero sequel. Regarding the script of the movie, Gunn said he’s rushing to get it done before he goes off to shoot another one of his films, The Belco Experiment. He also said he’s already completed a draft, and is just now finally taking a break.
Gunn confirmed that at least one new member will be joining the team in Guardians 2, and one familiar character could also be joining as well. In regards to casting newcomers, Gunn revealed the process has already begun. He’s already talking to someone about playing the new Guardian, although it has not been revealed what character they’re playing yet.
James Gun also reaffirmed that Peter Quill’s father will not be the same one in the comics, J’Son of Spartax, instead changing the source material to better fit his vision of the film. Many have suspected that Quill’s father could be Adam Warlock, although that’s still up for debate.
Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is set for release on May 5, 2017.
