The cast of X-Men: Dark Phoenix continues to grow as new rumours place both Angelina Jolie and Jessica Chastain on the producers’ wish-list. If cast, the pair would join Sophie Turner, Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy, all of whom are expected to return.
The film promises to be a closer adaptation of the ‘Dark Phoenix Saga’ from the pages of Uncanny X-Men, and is believed to feature the Shi’ar, an militaristic alien empire that comes to Earth to contain the Phoenix.
Instantly, we’re thinking Jolie and Chastain would both be ideal candidates for Lilandra, the Imperial Majestrix of the Shi’ar – though they’d also be good fits for members of the Hellfire Club’s Inner Circle. The Hellfire Club was previously seen in X-Men First Class and plays a prominent role in the comics version of the Dark Phoenix storyline and Jolie in particular would be perfect casting for Selene, the Black Queen.
Of course, at this point your guesses are as good as ours, but despite rumours that this will mark Simon Kinberg’s directorial debut we’re tentatively excited about any X-Men adaptation that takes closer inspiration from the comics.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix is due in cinemas on 2 November 2018.
