The Bourne series has become one of the most notable action franchises of our time. All of the films share the same aspects that make action movies so great: suspense, terrific action, well-shot, and great characters. While The Bourne Legacy seemed like a step back, it was revealed earlier this year that both Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass would be returning for the next installment in the Bourne franchise.
Matt Damon confirmed this with E! News on the red carpet for Project Greenlight with his buddy Ben Affleck. Surprisingly enough, it was Affleck who first brought up the subject. “Well, [Damon’s] going to be doing a Bourne movie next fall when I’ve just completely lost any semblance of physical fitness. So…,” Affleck said.
Matt Damon confirmed as much, saying, “Yes, next year. It’ll be in 2016 when the movie will actually come out. [Director] Paul Greengrass is going to do another one and that’s all I ever said. I just needed him to say yes.”
Jeremy Renner served as a fine lead in the last film, but I’m still happy to see Damon back. He is arguably a much bankable star too, making it clear for Universal to bring him into the next movie. That doesn’t mean it’s the end of the path for Aaron Cross(Jeremy Renner’s character). He will also be in future Bourne films, possibly crossing over with Jason Bourne? It’s too soon to say but that would make for a great event film.
