Soon after a Wonder Woman movie was officially announced by Warner Bros., it was reported that they were seeking a female director to helm the project. Lists starting popping up left and right, naming just about any and every female director in the business. We may now have insight as to who they’re really looking at, and it’s a great choice.
A report from Variety says that Breaking Bad producer/director Michelle MacLaren is in talks to direct Wonder Woman. Previously, Lexi Alexander was rumored(probably only because she directed another superhero film), but she already confirmed she wouldn’t take the job if it was offered to her.
The movie is rumored to take place back in time, before the events of Batman v Superman, when women still didn’t have the right to vote. In order to accomplish something like that and make it convincing, a competent director is needed. MacLaren fits that bill, and then some. The episodes of Breaking Bad that she directed were some of the most memorable and helped define the series. If Warner Bros. is dead-set on hiring a female director, she is the best choice.
Wonder Woman is set for release on June 23, 2017.
