From what’s been seen so far from Fantastic Four, it’s pretty safe to assume that it is going for a much less comical tone and much more grounded and realistic. The Fantastic Four franchise is one that definitely needs changing too, as the last two were way off the mark of what a good comic book movie should be. Fox has already taken the first step in the right direction by bringing on a great writer in Simon Kinberg and a fantastic(pun intended) director in Josh Trank. While we haven’t seen any official footage or stills from the film, it appears we should expect to soon.
When talking with ComicBook.com, writer Simon Kinberg gave an update on where the film is at now. When asked if he knows when we should expect a trailer, he said:
“I don’t, actually. We’re putting it together now, and one of the important things, because this Fantastic Four is a reboot, and is such a different tonality and vibe from those other films, we want to make sure that the first thing we put out really expresses the voice of the movie, and isn’t compromised by not having visual effects ready, or anything like that.”
His comments make sense, as Fox seems to be pushing the change in tone as the big difference from the original movies. Kinberg has already done a great job bringing back the X-Men in Days of Future Past, so his version of the Fantastic Four might be something really genius and inventive. If that’s what it needs to separate it from the rest of the superhero movies, than so be it. I’d take a character-driven story over one convoluted with villains any day.
