Fox has released a new trailer for its X-Men spin-off TV show, The Gifted, which is creatively led by Burn Notice‘s Matt Nix. Let’s watch it now:

There’s not a great deal in here that we haven’t seen before (with the possible exception of a slow, mournful cover of Coldplay’s ‘Viva La Vida’) but it’s fair to say that it looks like a far more traditional X-Men outing than Fox’s other X-Men TV show, Legion.

Neither The Gifted nor Legion share a universe with one another or the X-Men movieverse, but Nix has recently been speaking to TV Guide and promised that the lack of X-Men will be an important component of the story, saying:

“The X-Men are gone. That’s not a dodge. That’s not like ‘The X-Men are gone and we’re never going to deal with it. It’s a big part of this show and we’re going to be exploring it. It’s a huge deal to these guys. Its a huge deal to the world. It’s one of the central mysteries of the show.”

Of course, while the X-Men may be “gone” we’re still going to see some bona fide X-Men characters brought to life, with Polaris, Blink and Thunderbird already part of the cast. It seems those of you who thought Legion fell a little too far from the X-Men tree will be well catered for.

The first episode of The Gifted airs on Fox on 2 October 2017.
